Expect to see a whole lot more of Katy Perry come 2017. The “Rise” singer has been hanging on the down low, mostly with her current boyfriend, Orlando Bloom, but she revealed Tuesday morning on Elvis Duran’s talk show that she’s been in the studio working hard on her fourth album.
“Last night I was in the studio, I’m just deep in the writing process,” she told the talk show host. “It takes a bit of time for me to [write] because I have to have those experiences and then write about them. I have to digest what I’m seeing and recycle it and give my perspective on it.”
Plus, this fourth album will be a Katy Perry we’ve never seen before. “I’m working with a lot of unexpected writers and producers and … that’s bringing out a lot of different things sonically,” the songstress revealed. “Even when I was working with my go-to producers, I’d always push them to play me a beat that was reserved for Three 6 Mafia or something like that … I know exactly how to write a lyric over that because my strengths are melody and lyrics. I’m putting myself in unexpected situations and that is breeding a lot of new color.”
Not only is Perry working on this new album, but she’s getting ready to launch an entire shoe collection in the spring. “It’s very colorful, very funny, very tongue-in-cheek,” she said of the shoes. “I have a heel that is based on one of my trips to Cuba, and the heel is actually a cigar.” But we think the real question here is, will there be shark shoes? Katy has yet to answer that one.

And did we forget to mention that she is so incredibly relatable? “I had Panda Express for dinner last night,” she admitted when Durant asked what makes her a “normal” girl. “I was really craving orange chicken … I’m in the middle of the recording process so I’m like maybe I need to get that body back. I’ve been eating really well for breakfast and lunch, but I’m like, ‘Ah, that orange chicken glaze!'” It gets us every time, too, Katy; you’re not alone.
“I have a lot of tools,” she said of how she stays sane in such a crazy industry. “I go to therapy, I don’t get excessive on the substance … it’s difficult in this industry, you’re holding on for dear life. You feel like you’re riding a rocket and now I’m not holding on for dear life … now I’m surfing. I’m feeling good.”

“I think I was put on this earth to lift people up and elevate people and do that through my messages,” Perry explained of what drives her passion. “At the end of the day, I think music is the thing that heals us and unites us … No matter what language you speak, everybody kind of sings the same song. A song can bring the whole world together, even if it’s just a feeling that it puts inside of you that gives you hope.” Well said, Katy, well said.
